El Sitio, an Argentina-based Internet network, provides country-specific content for Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking users in Latin America and the U.S.
In September it launched its U.S. site, (www.elsitio.com), targetingeight urban markets initially, and is operating in Brazil, Mexico andUruguay. It has expansion plans for Chile, Venezuela and Colombia next year.
A native of the Dominican Republic, Mr. Sosa plays for the Chicago Cubs.He will be featured in El Sitio's upcoming multimedia advertising campaign, make public appearances on behalf of elsitio.com, participate in live online chats and provide autographed memorabilia for online auctions.
As part of the corporate sponsorship agreement, Mr. Sosa will wearclothing and accessories with the El Sitio logo on U.S. national TV.
El Sitio also will develop and host the Official Sammy Sosa Web site, tobe launched in Nov. Fans will have access to statistics, late-breaking news and an exclusive e-commerce platform.
"This alliance with Sammy Sosa is a major step in branding El Sitio.com as the leading Internet network focused on the Latino-American Internet community in the United States," says Roberto Cibrin-Campoy, CEO of El Sitio.
The agreement further provides for Mr. Sosa to represent elsitio.com worldwide in its efforts to expand its network and to further higher education opportunities for Latin-American students in the U.S.
