LONDON--BBC Worldwide has linked up with Granada Media to develop and place U.S. versions of sitcoms and drama series inspired by U.K. originals.

"This new venture will show how British TV companies can expand internationally by joining forces in a collaborative way," said Rupert Gavin, CEO of BBC Worldwide. "It adds to our capability, provides us with a strong complementary presence in the U.S. and generates a highly attractive additional product for international sales teams."

GB Productions will be headed by Scott Siegler, who is also president of Granada's Los Angeles operation, Granada Entertainment USA.

"Together, BBC and Granada can work towards becoming a major force in entertainment this side of the Atlantic," Mr. Siegler said.

BBC has increased its presence in the U.S. in the last two years, including a global partnership with Discovery Communications for co-production of factual channels. BBC America is available in 10 million U.S. homes.

Granada Entertainment USA develops and produces original TV movies and miniseries.
