Published on .

Tom Carey, 55, president of BBDO North America, will retire at the end of June. Formerly the managing director of the New York office of D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles and exec VP of its international division, Mr. Carey joined BBDO Worldwide in 1990 as president of its New York office. He was later named CEO and co-president, with Ted Sann, of the office. In January of this year, Mr. Carey relinquished his title to President-Chief Operating Officer Bill Katz and became president of BBDO North America. In that position, Mr. Carey developed BBDO's global business with multinational clients. In a memo distributed within the agency today, BBDO Worldwide Chairman-CEO Allen Rosenshine wrote: ``Tom never gave BBDO anything less than his best, which always showed him to be an exceptional businessman and advertising strategist as well as a real gentleman.'' BBDO is not currently searching for a replacement, and Mr. Carey has no immediate plans for future employment.
