Decha Tangpanitansook and Suthisak Sucharit- tanonta, who made their names at Results Thai- land, the Ogilvy & Mather Thai subsidiary, will become chief executive/creative director and executive creative director, respectively, at Damask/BBDO, Bangkok.
Industry observers say the recruitment proba- bly took place outside Thailand, as Vinit Sura- pongchai, chairman and CEO of Damask/BBDO, and Sunandha Tulayadhma, country manager of Ogilvy & Mather Group Thailand, are close friends. They also say Thailand's economic downturn makes it an unlikely time for high-profile head-hunting.
``No one would have imagined a year ago that BBDO could have attracted Thailand's best in the advertising industry,'' Chris Jacques, the agen- cy's Singapore-based regional chairman, says in announcing the recruitment. ``It all goes to show that BBDO is well on the fast track to building a premier team in Asia.''
Mr. Decha and Mr. Suthisak's most recent suc- cess came with a TV commercial for a local Thai whisky. In the 30-second commercial, which won both a Lion at Cannes and "Best in Asia" at the Asian Advertising Awards in Hong Kong, a portly Thai actor standing in what appears to be the Scottish highlands and outfitted in traditional Scot dress, raves on about Scottish tradition. Then, in the closing seven seconds, he holds up a bottle of his favorite drink: Black Cat Thai whisky.
The team does well with alcohol; their other award-winning campaigns include one for Sea- gram's Cooler Club.
