BBDO thought to be off BMW shortlist

MUNICH -- BMW is believed to have dropped BBDO Duesseldorf from the list of ad agencies pitching for its $50 million ad account in Germany. Still in contention are Grey Duesseldorf, Rempen & Partner Duesseldorf and former incumbent Scholz & Friends Hamburg, which is now the firm favorite to win back the business.

Menzel Nolte Hamburg formally notified BMW in April that it would resign the account when its contract expires at the end of the year. Agency and client differ over strategy.

BBDO's reported failure to make the shortlist will be a major blow to the agency, which has already lost VW unit SEAT's ad account and is without an auto account.
