BellSouth forms interactive unit

BellSouth Corp., Atlanta, announced a new business unit today called BellSouth.net to assist its affiliates in offering business and residential Internet access in its major markets by mid-summer 1996. John Robinson becomes president of BellSouth.net from executive director-strategic management at BellSouth Telecommunications. By this summer, BellSouth plans to offer Internet connection to residential and business customers in many major markets in its region. "BellSouth is pursuing a multifaceted electronic commerce strategy that includes forging agreements with key alliance partners both locally and nationally to provide useful content and applications," Mr. Robinson said.
