Published on .

BellSouth Corp. reported record profit for any quarter in the company's history with a net income of $629 million in the three months ended June 30, 1996--an increase of 12.9 percent over the same quarter last year. Earnings per share increased 12.5 percent compared with the second quarter a year ago. Spurred by region-wdie marketing programs and demand for telecommunications services related to the Atlanta Olympic Games, BellSouth added 29,000 access lines, shattering the second quarter record of 176,000 BellSouth set just one year ago.
