Vlasic Foods International President and CEO Robert Bernstock resigned Wednesday from the ailing food marketer. Mr. Bernstock's resignation was voluntary and he plans to join another company that has not been identified, according to a Vlasic spokesman.

Since spinning off from Campbell Soup Co. in March 1998, the pickle and frozen dinner marketer has been unable to sustain earnings and is currently $500 million in debt. The spokesman did not rule out the possibility that Vlasic would file for bankruptcy.
