Bertelsmann's new media shop expands with Swiss agency buy

BERLIN -- Bertelsmann-owned multimedia agency Pixelpark here has bought a 75% stake in Basel-based Multimedia Kommunikations AG (MMK) as its pursues a strategy of international expansion.

Pixelpark is Germany's biggest multimedia agency, and it opened a New York office last March. It also reportedly intends to set up shop in Paris in August. Pixelpark specializes in developing intranet systems and Internet services, and in consulting and marketing for electronic business.

Its main clients are Adidas, Lufthansa, Unilever, Siemens, Commerzbank and Deutsche Telekom.

Founder Paulus Neef estimates there are 1,200, mostly small, new media agencies in Germany, notching up billings of $1.2 billion.
