Big americast purchase

Americast, the cable programming venture of Ameritech Corp., BellSouth Corp., GTE Corp., SBC Communications, Southern New England Telecommunications and the Walt Disney Co., signed a contract to purchase more than 3 million digital set-top boxes from Zenith Electronics Corp. for its americast-branded entertainment service. Worth more than $1 billion, the purchase solidifies the commitment of the americast partners to deliver cable programming via various cable, direct broadcast satellite and interactive TV platforms in each of the partners' regions.
