BIG MAC PUTS NEW SPIN ON AN OLD JINGLE

Published on .

McDonald's Corp. resurrects its famous Big Mac jingle this month in four spots starring Charles Barkley. The "Two all beef patties special sauce lettuce cheese pickles onions on a sesame seed bun" ads from Leo Burnett USA and Burrell Communications, both Chicago, accompany the chain's 96 cents Big Mac promotion running through Jan. 18 and again in the spring and fall. Burger King Corp. this month offers 99 cents Whoppers, backed by a 30-second spot from Ammirati & Puris/Lintas, New York, as the chains battle to reverse sluggish winter traffic. Needham, Harper & Steers-now McDonald's agency DDB Needham Worldwide-created the original Big Mac jingle in 1975. The agency also coined "You deserve a break today," reintroduced last year.
