Big newspapers show circ gains

Seven of the 12 biggest circulation newspapers saw circulation growth in the six months ended Sept. 30, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations, Schaumburg, Ill. Those with the biggest gains were: Chicago Tribune, up 2.67%; Los Angeles Times, up 1.65%; and USA Today, up 1.46%. Smaller gains were posted by New York's Daily News, Long Island's Newsday, Houston Chronicle and Chicago Sun-Times. Overall daily circulation for all newspapers measured by ABC was down slightly in the six month period (-0.321%); Sunday circulation was down 0.844%, according to the Newspaper Association of America.
