Refuge from the ink-stained wretches. For Jay Chiat, the timing of last week's Online Marketplace I conference in Chicago couldn't have been better. Recovering from a scathing front page article about his agency in The Wall Street Journal, Mr. Chiat, the keynote speaker, quipped: "I really appreciate you offering me asylum after being driven out of New York." Mr. Chiat also took the opportunity to introduce his latest protege, Tiago Soromenho, an Art Center student who got a Chiat/Day summer internship by creating his own Web home page and sending the agency chief the address. Now that's Internetworking.

Cancel at any time. We know computers are now mainstream products, but the junk-mail piece promoting Columbia House's newest "club" still strikes us as silly. After all, we're used to perforated stamp sheets filled with magazine logos, but CD-ROMs? That's right, now you can buy any two discs and get a third at substantial savings! And if you join, buy just three more at regular prices over the next two years! Check the order form for operating environment, processor, memory and peripherals requirements. But don't look for a spot to tape a penny to-the total cost of the first three discs is a not-so-cheap $40.10.
