Richard Blatt, 42, was named president of the Point-of-Purchase Advertising Institute last week from executive director of the Englewood, N.J.-based trade association.

Mr. Blatt will continue with his previous duties, including the organization of POPAI's annual Marketplace trade show-the industry's largest event, which expects nearly 7,000 next October in New York.

The title change "better reflects the esteem the board and membership hold for Dick professionally and represents the higher profile that POPAI has taken in the advertising community," said Michael Lauber, POPAI chairman and president of Tusco Industries, Gnadenhutten, Ohio.

Before joining POPAI in 1992 as executive director, Mr. Blatt was with the American Advertising Federation.
