BMW Webcasts X5 debut

BMW of North America, Woodcliff Lake, N.J., will unveil its first sport utility vehicle, the X5, via a live Webcast from the North American International Auto Show in Detroit Jan. 4. The event begins at 2:30 p.m. ET. Viewers must use Real Player, a free plug-in from Real Networks. BMW's national agency, Fallon McElligott, Minneapolis, is handling.

General Motors Corp.'s Buick brand was the first car marketer to introduce a vehicle online with its December 1996 live Web broadcast for the Regal sedan. Buick spent more than $1 million for the event, which featured live video and audio as well as chat sessions with Regal designers and engineers.
