Tom Bodett, after 12 years as Motel 6 ad spokesman, finally appears bodily in a TV campaign breaking May 4. The spots feature Mr. Bodett's voice -- familiar from past radio and TV commercials -- but not much else that will make him stand out in a crowd. One ad only uses a baby photo of him, and the others are keyed to certain locales (like Florida), with Mr. Bodett's face obscured by an apropos prop. The spots emphasize renovations at the hotels. Richards Group, Dallas, created the $14 million campaign. Copywriter: Mike Bales. Art director: Jim Baldwin.
