Boomers fuel beverage trend

NPD Group, Port Washington, New York, said alcoholic beverages are now served at 3.5% of at-home dinners, surpassing coffee (3.4%) and up from 2.5% in 1990. Consumers over age 45 are driving the trend, NPD said, as they are far more likely to have a drink with dinner. About half of all alcoholic drinks served at dinner were wine, followed by beer at 37%.
