New boss at Turner India

NEW DELHI -- Turner International (India), the wholly owned network sales subsidiary of Time Warner's Turner Broadcasting System, named Anshuman Mishra to succeed Bhaskar Pant as head of Indian operations.

Mr. Mishra was previously the general manager for the British Broadcasting Corp.'s India office. In his new position, he will oversee the TNT & Cartoon Network and the CNN International satellite channels.

The broadcaster attributes Mr. Pant's departure to an end in his contract. He will continue to consult for Turner in the months ahead.

But Mr. Pant's replacement with Mr. Mishra may point to Turner's intentions to aggressively grow its CNN International channel in India. According to estimates for 1997, BBC World claims an Indiawide reach of nearly 10 million homes. CNN is a little more than half of that.
