Boston Beer buys brewery

Published on .

Boston Beer Co., Boston, said it will buy its first major brewery plant, the 390,000 barrel-capacity Cincinnati plant now owned by Hudepohl-Schoenling Brewing Co. Boston Beer, maker of Samuel Adams Boston Lager beer, also brews its 15-item Samuel Adams line in Boston and under contract with other brewers in four other cities. Anheuser-Busch has complained that marketing for Samuel Adams beers implied the brand was made in small batches in Boston Beer's own plants. Boston has rejected those complaints.
