Boston Chicken Inc., parent of the Boston Market chain, said it has expanded its stake to 85% of Progressive Food Concepts, a company formed last January to explore new ways of marketing its home-style prepared foods. The Golden, Colo.-based company said Wednesday it plans to widen a one-unit test of an expanded Boston Market concept in Charlotte, N.C., to restaurants in Denver, and is buying 16 Denver restaurants from a franchisee in connection with the project.
Separately, Boston Chicken said it has acquired a majority position in Mayfair Partners, operator of Boston Markets in Baltimore and Washington, D.C. The move will add 53 restaurants to the chain's corporate store count.
