LIMA--Sanilo, S.A., the local parent company of several major fast-food chains in Peru, has branched out into the sports entertainment field, opening the first modern bowling alley in Lima.

Cosmic Bowling, which cost roughly $3 million, opened November 25 in Lima's new Larcomar complex. Larcomar will also be the home to numerous upscale boutiques, as well as well-known franchises, such as Hard Rock Cafe, slated to open later this year.

Sanilo is partners on the project with the U.S. bowling giant Brunswick. Daniel Diez Canseco Terry, Cosmic Bowling's general manager, says the company plans to open another bowling alley within the coming year. He predicts the company will recover its investment within three years.

Sanilo, which is also involved in education, holding a major share in Lima's private San Ignacio de Loyola University, operates KFC and Pizza Hut in Peru.
