Brazilian beverage, tobacco companies set up b-2-b portal

RIO DE JANEIRO - Brazil's top beverage producer, AmBev, and leading tobacco company Souza Cruz (the Brazilian subsidary of British-American Tobacco)are planning to launch a B2B portal for a range of services and goods.

The companies are investing $5.5 million in the portal, (www.agrega.com.br), which is earmarked to start trading in the first semester of 2001. The move is aimed at reducing $10 million in costs a year.

AmBev and B.A.T. are seeking at least three,unnamed associates in the project.
