Daniel Brewster, president-CEO of American Express Publishing Corp., New York, asked Hachette Filipacchi Magazines to remove his name from the list of candidates for the CEO post vacated by David Pecker last month, according to an internal memo circulated within AmEx Publishing this afternoon. "When asked internally or externally to comment, I've repeatedly said I'm more than happy in my present job," Mr. Brewster said in the memo, adding he has not solicited any offers and that his contract contains a no-compete clause. Jack Kliger, senior VP-Parade, is now presumed to be the first choice for the Hachette position.
