Pet Inc. this month teams with TV's "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" in a two-month promotion for Downyflake waffles, offering one trading card based on the program's characters inside each of 6 million product boxes. There are six trading cards in the collection; each Downyflake package also includes a mail-in offer to join Saban Entertainment's Power Rangers fan club. The promotion, handled in-house, is backed by a national free standing insert created by D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles, St. Louis.
Vending Intelligence Co., Culver City, Calif., recently launched a holiday promotion for its new in-store music sampling and compact disc vending system called ExpresStop in 53 southern California supermarkets. Offering CDs from labels including A&M, MCA, EMI, Verve and Critique, the system allows supermarket shoppers to hear a 30-second sample of a featured CD by pressing a button on in-store displays; purchases can be made directly from the machine with credit card or bank ATM card.
Medi-Promotions, Lyndhurst, N.J., has unveiled MediScripts Starter, a product combining prescription blanks and samples in a single package. A plastic-encased pack includes a customized prescription from each doctor along with a blister pack of medication, and is designed to help pharmaceutical companies by reducing "oversampling" of their drugs.
