Brinkley ads for ADM become news

Recently retired TV journalist David Brinkley appeared for the first time Sunday as spokesman in TV ads for Archer Daniels Midland. The ads first aired in ABC's "This Week," the national public affairs program Mr. Brinkley had hosted. The spots, by Televisionary, Chicago, drew news coverage in The Washington Post and elsewhere, where writers questioned the propriety of Mr. Brinkley's ads appearing during his old show.
