Broadcasters defend consolidation

Broadcasters, unveiling an investment fund intended to increase ownership of TV and radio stations by minorities and women, contended minority-owned stations will still be able to compete for ad dollars despite ownership consolidation in radio and the coming consolidation in TV. At a Washington press conference, CBS Corp. President-CEO Mel Karmazin said he has seen no instances where a small operator isn't able to compete.
