Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp., in a page ad in the Nov. 12 edition of The Wall Street Journal
, claims it's been "defamed" by Walt Disney Co.'s Touchstone Pictures. Touchstone is the producer of "The Insider," the movie touted as the true story of industry whistle-blower and former B&W executive Jeffrey Wigand. In its ad--created in-house and titled "An Open Letter to Disney Shareholders" and signed by Mick Brookes, B&W chairman-CEO--the company said incidents depicted in the movie that show the tobacco company threatening Mr. Wigand are false. A spokesman said the company is conducting research with an eye toward filing a defamation suit.
