Burnett, MacManus scrap plan to merge media units globally

Published on .

Leo Burnett Co., Chicago, and the MacManus Group, New York, called off the proposed global merging of their media units. In a joint statement, Burnett Chairman-CEO Rick Fizdale and MacManus Group CEO Roy Bostock said their companies "had enough fundamental differences of opinion on how to best run such a massive operation, especially in the U.S., that we've chosen not to move forward." MacManus now is likely to set up its own independent worldwide media operation at the start of 1999; it would be an expansion of TeleVest, the company's well-known U.S. buying operation.
