Better Business Bureau launches online

Published on .

The Council of Better Business Bureaus on Wednesday unveiled a variety of initiatives to protect consumers online. The focal point of the program is a seal of approval that certifies that a Web site has provided the BBB with information about its ownership and management and has agreed to adhere to truthful and accurate ad claims. Visitors who click on the seal on a participating site are linked to the BBB's Web site and additional information about the participating company.

The launch of the BBBOnline program was funded by a variety of Internet-related companies, including AT&T Corp., Eastman Kodak Co., Netscape Communications Corp. and Sony Electronics.
