BEST BUY AWARDS BROADCAST BIZ TO STARCOM

(April 13, 2001) -- Bcom3's Starcom Worldwide won the $50 million national broadcast buying business of electronics retailer Best Buy Co. The agency beat out WPP Group's The Media Edge, Omnicom Group's OMD and Zenith Media, which is jointly owned by Cordiant Communications Group and Publicis Groupe.

The assignment includes network and cable buying for the chain and its other retail shops, including Sam Goody.

The company, based in Eden Prairie, Minn., operates more than 350 Best Buy stores in 39 states and expects to open more than 550 stores nationwide by 2004. Best Buy recorded a 23% increase in sales this year, up $15.33 billion, compared with $12.49 billion last year. -- Richard Linnett
