'BYTE' layoffs, closure seen

Published on .

BYTE is expected to close as CMP Media, Manhasset, N.Y., prepares to complete May 28 or 29 its $28.6 million purchase of the McGraw-Hill Cos. title and other McGraw-Hill tech publications. An executive close to BYTE said staff layoffs were announced today. There was another report that BYTE will close effective June 1. There has been speculation CMP would merge BYTE into its Windows Magazine (AA, May 18). CMP declined to comment; McGraw-Hill wasn't available for comment at deadline.
