Cable modem news from TW, Home Network

Published on .

Time Warner and cable system operator Century Communications Corp. agreed to offer TW's RoadRunner cable modem service to Century subscribers in Norwich, N.Y. The partnership will boost Time Warner's subscriber acquisition efforts for the service, which is already deployed in three markets and is scheduled to enter three more by end of summer. Separately, Home Network and Comcast Corp. will deploy a "telco-return" system in Philadelphia; the technology allows the cable operator and cable modem service to enter the market without implementing a more expensive two-way cable system. While the downstream data comes via high-speed cable, the return signal is sent by telephone modem.
