Cable operator to take liquor ads

Published on .

Continental Cablevision, the nation's third-largest operator of local cable TV systems, will accept liquor advertising on a regional basis. The company's new policy states the ads will only be shown between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. Continental, with more than 4 million subscribers nationwide, will leave it up to its five regional managers to decide if a region will accept the ads. Thus far, the Boston-based company's New England region has decided not to air hard liquor ads. U.S. Rep. Joseph Kennedy (D., Mass.), a vocal critic of liquor ads on TV, represents the Boston area. MultiChannel News first reported Continental's policy in today's issue.
