2 editors from N.Y. Times Magazines
Sports Illustrated raided the New York Times Magazines for two senior editors: Jim Herre, the managing editor of the weekly Golf World and Mark Godich, editor of Golf Shop Operations. Mr. Herre will oversee SI's "Golf Plus" section, selectively bound into 417,000 copies 37 times a year. Mr. Godich will be golf editor of the regular SI. They start on July 7. The moves sparked speculation that Time Inc. has golf publishing plans, but SI Publisher Dave Long said the only move under consideration is the spinoff of results/preview sections from the Masters and U.S. Open tournaments into standalone magazines.
Saturn Corp. will introduce its redesigned SL sedan with a major campaign breaking nationally in mid-August. The effort will include three teasers and six other commercials, with one 90-second spot using a Hal Riney voice-over. Some retailers may begin airing spots regionally in July. The campaign from Hal Riney & Partners, San Francisco, will continue to emphasize Saturn owners, but is expected to carry a different flavor with the input of Dave O'Hare and Steve Stone, former Goodby, Silverstein & Partners creatives who are now senior VP-creative directors on the Saturn account.
