Postpones Decision Until September; DDB Protest Under Review

SAN FRANCISCO (AdAge.com) -- The California Lottery Commission today voted to postpone a final decision on the selection of Interpublic Group of Cos.' Foote, Cone & Belding Worldwide as agency for its five-year, $125 million advertising account.

instead will take up the motion to approve the San Francisco-based office of FCB at a meeting Sept. 10, said Jim Hasegawa, director of marketing for the lottery.

Lottery attorneys and officials are still reviewing an official protest filed by Omnicom Group's DDB Worldwide, Los Angeles.

Lottery officials and executives at DDB declined to comment on the nature of the protest, but executives indicated it involved media costs.

"I really can't speculate what will occur until the protest has been reviewed by the legal staff and a recommendation made to the director and the commission," Mr. Hasegawa said.
