The award will be called Radio Lions.
Other categories added in recent years are Lions Direct, created for direct marketing; Media Lions, for creative use of media; Cyber Lions for interactive advertising and Web sites; and Titanium Lions, to honor innovation in advertising.
The largest number of entries the festival receives are for the press and poster category, which covers print and out-of-home advertising, and the TV and cinema competitions, but the newer categories have showed more growth as entries of print work and commercials dropped during the economic slowdown.
To prepare for the Radio Lions, the U.K.'s Radio Advertising Bureau will hold a seminar on June 21 during this year's Cannes festival, held June 21-26 in France.
The festival has also explored the possibility of adding Public Relations Lions.
