The acquisition gives CKE an East Coast foothold for its 675-unit Carl's Jr. hamburger chain. CKE has the option to continue running Hardee's as a separate brand or slowly convert Hardee's 3,200 units into Carl's Jr. outlets. Hardee's is currently the fourth-largest hamburger chain in the U.S. Mendelsohn/Zien and Western International Media, both Los Angeles, handle Carl's Jr. At Hardee's, Pearlstein Group, Los Angeles, handles creative; International Communications Group, Los Angeles, handles media.
