Catalog sales higher this year

Published on .

Maxwell Sroge Co., Evanston, Ill., a catalog consultant, said its survey of catalog companies indicates they expect sales this year will be up about 12% over '94. For the holiday season, 53% said they'll mail the same number of catalogs as last year or fewer. Of those who said less, 67% said that they'll mail 15% to 20% fewer catalogs. Citing higher postage costs, soaring paper costs and higher UPS delivery costs, 93% of the catalogers told Sroge their catalog costs were up more than 15% over last year.
