Cadillac Catera's animated duck mascot will play a reduced role in the sedan's 1998 model campaign, breaking Nov. 17 on national TV. It appears only at the end of several commercials, with the year-old tag, "The Caddy that zigs." The ads focus on the fun-to-drive aspects of the General Motors entry-level luxury sedan, showing "car-on-road" shots. "Born To Be Alive," by techno-pop artist Patrick Hernandez, is the background song. Cadillac did not disclose ad spending, but it is expected to spend about $3 million on TV through December, and about $27 million next year. Print breaks in February.
