MIAMI, Florida -- CBS TeleNoticias, a pan-regional Spanish- language news network, will launch a Portuguese-language network in Brazil this Spring, it was jointly announced by Group W Satellite Communications and CBS News.

"Latin America is one of the largest and fastest growing marketplaces. By the year 2000, Brazil will offer a potential audience of over 43 million television homes and 8.5 million multichannel homes, making it an extremely important marketplace for CBS TeleNoticias' growth in this region," says Lloyd Werner, executive vice president, sales and marketing, Group W Satellite Communications. "With the overwhelming success of CBS TeleNoticias' Spanish-language network throughout Latin America, launching a customized Portuguese-language network for the Brazilian marketplace is a natural next step."

CBS TeleNotcias' Portuguese-language network will initially feature eight hours of news programming in Portuguese during prime time with a dedicated Portuguese-speaking news team originating from Miami and Brazil. During the remaining hours CBS TeleNoticias will be telecast in Spanish.
