CDnow gains a European foothold

European search engine Lycos Bertelsmann, a joint effort between Lycos and media giant Bertelsmann, has appointed CDnow the exclusive music retailer for the site. CDnow recently signed a similar deal on Lycos in the U.S. and its subsidiary online community Tripod.

Under the terms of the deal, CDnow will pay Lycos Bertelsmann $5.5 million to be the exclusive music retailer on its sites including France, Germany, and Italy.
