Music e-tailer CDnow announced a one-year marketing deal with Time Inc., making the media company the premier publishing company promoted at CDnow. The pact also enables CDnow
to piggyback on online and offline advertising and marketing from Time Inc. properties. For instance, CDnow will promote free trial subscriptions of Entertainment Weekly, People
and Sports Illustrated
on its site, in exchange for a cut on revenue generated from the subscriptions. The companies said this agreement could be expanded to include other Time Inc. magazines later this year. This deal is one of a number of low-cost marketing efforts CDnow is pursuing as its cash reserves grow low.
