"We should step up our efforts to provide comprehensive services for Internet users," says Zuo Feng, deputy director of the Data Communications Bureau of China Telecom.
According to the China National Information Centre, the Internet market grew by 70% to more than 1.2 million users over the first 10 months this year and the number of indi-vidual users for the first time surpassed those users who had joined under their com-panies' accounts in August.
Government ministries and institutions are expected to launch an Internet connection campaign to open their own Web sites next year, according to the Business Weekly news-paper. "The exhibition aims at promoting In-ternet know-how among the public and domestic companies,'' says Mr. Zuo. The show will gather the world's leading Internet service providers and computer companies, according to organizers.
China's Internet development lags behind that of the West. However, foreign Internet service providers have been developing their own Chi-nese-language services to take advantage of China's large market potential. They are expect-ed to make a full presentation to Chinese Inter-net users at next year's exhibition.
