CIA'S Juan Plata joins internet auction site

LONDON--Juan Plata, former boardaccount director at CIA Medianetwork International, has joined online auction serviceIcollector plc as its first senior globalcommunications director. His recruitmentcomes as the site prepares to carry advertising for the first time.

Icollector, whichclaims to be the biggest independent portal for arts, antiques and collectables,says Mr. Plata's brief is to develop an"aggressive, coherent, cutting edge" globalcommunications strategy. Although it's U.K.-based, 70% of its users are in the U.S.

Mr. Plata is a high-profile characterwithin the U.K. media community, knownfor his irreverent approach. In a 12-yearmedia career, including stints at Saatchi& Saatchi and CIAMNI, both in London, hehas worked on multinational strategies forclients such as Nike, Calvin Klein, DHL andWrangler. He left CIAMNI at the end of lastyear.
