CINGULAR NAMES ADVERTISING EXEC, SIGNS NASCAR DEAL

(Aug. 16, 2001) -- Cingular Wireless, Atlanta, today named Daryl W. Evans VP-advertising, replacing Larry Powell, who left the same post at the nation's No. 2 wireless services company in January.

Mr. Evans, 47, comes to Cingular from personnel services company Ranstad North America, Atlanta, where he was managing director for marketing and communications. Prior to Ranstad, he held executive posts at Interpublic Group of Cos.' McCann-Erickson Worldwide and worked for consumer marketers Quaker Oats Co. and Kimberly-Clark Corp.

Cingular also signed a four-year sponsorship deal with Richard Childress Racing for the 2002 NASCAR Winston Cup Series. Cingular will participate in the 36-race series in the Cingular Wireless Chevrolet. Mr. Childress won six Winston Cup championships with the late Dale Earnhardt.
