NEW YORK ( -- Troubled Ziff Davis Media made another big move today by bringing Peter Weedfald, who held various senior sales and executive positions at the company in the 1980s, back in to fill the newly created post of president. Mr. Weedfald stepped down as senior VP-CMO at Circuit City in March amid turmoil at that company.

He seemed to allude to that episode in a note to friends and colleagues today about his new position. "Thank you very much for your many generous words of wisdom and support for me and my family over the past 30 days," he wrote.

Ziff Davis, publisher of business and video-game websites and titles such as PC Magazine, may be putting more harrowing days behind it as well. This week it reached an agreement with creditors that could allow it to emerge from bankruptcy protection as early as June. The company has been struggling to negotiate the transition from its days as a traditional magazine publisher.

"As Ziff Davis continues to expand its personal footprint, Peter's expertise, passion and team building leadership will be an immeasurable asset to the entire Ziff Davis family," CEO Jason Young said in a statement.
