Clinton presses for tobacco action

President Clinton held a short Rose Garden news event Monday to push for congressional action on comprehensive tobacco-control legislation. The White House was concerned by recent comments from House Republicans, including Speaker Newt Gingrich (R., Ga.), suggesting legislation such as that backed by Senate Commerce Committee Chairman John McCain (R., Ariz.) won't pass in the House.
