CNN launches new web site for Asia

Hong Kong--CNN's first Web site ( produced in Asia launched on Feb.6 in Hong Kong, featuring in-depth stories from across the Asia/Pacific, as well as world news stories that impact on the region.

"This new Asian Web site is an integral part of CNN's global strategy to offer consumers more regionally relevant news content on television and the Web," says Chris Cramer, president, CNN international networks, in Atlanta.

Turner hired an additional 30 staff to work out of CNN's integrated newsroom in Hong Kong, for a newsroom total of 85 television and Web journalists. The site will be operational 24-hours daily. Asia is the second English-language site developed by specifically for the international market. It launched a European version in September 2000. also operates eight local-language news sites and two local-language headline news services, including Japanese (, Chinese ( and Korean (
