Code of online practices unveiled

Published on .

The Council of Better Business Bureaus on Oct. 24 unveiled a new "Code of Online Business Practices." The council said businesses that want one of its two seals will be required to comply with the new guidelines. The five principles call for "truthful and accurate communications," "disclosure," "information practices and security," "customer satisfaction" and "protecting children." The council in a news release said the guidelines were consistent with more general guidelines adopted this summer by the Electronic Commerce & Consumer Protection Group, and would provide a means for resolving disputes.
