Coke ends sponsorship of Spanish bike race

Published on .

MADRID--Coca-Cola Co. has decided not to renew its sponsorship of bicycle race `La Vuelta de Espaqa' for 1996, according to Unipublic. It says talks are being held with Pepsi and Schweppes as possible replacements as the official drink.

Coke has not ruled out returning to the race in 1997 but said that this year it wanted to concentrate on its others sports sponsorship commitments such as the Euro '96 soccer championship, the Atlanta Olympics and Tour de France. Unipublic said new sponsors for the race this year are Aviaco, Ducados, Fertiberia and Wilkinson, while El Aguila will continue as the main sponsor. Others renewing their participation are Kodak, Marbella, Campofrio, Tissot, AGF, DYC, NatWest, MoviLine, and Fiat.
